In My Mailbox - 2/25

Friday, February 24, 2012

In My MailBox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren to show off what books you've gotten over the past week.

I managed to get quite a bit this week. I really need to catch up on my NetGalley books as well!

Won through a giveaway at Tales of Whimsy:

Yeah, I think it is time to get crackin' on all of those NetGalley books. I have more from previous weeks collecting virtual dust that I need to read. I should probably go on some kind of book buying/borrowing/requesting ban or something. Perhaps even a 12-step book program of some sort... but it is so incredibly addicting when I see all these books screaming read me!

So this week I actually decided to not be lazy and I took pictures. I'm going to try to do that more often, assuming I'm not being lazy that is. I went a little totally crazy on book buying this week, so here they are:

I can now scratch a few off of my TBR list! Hoorah!

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. You can visit her fantastic blog here.

These are the rules (anyone can participate):

- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Another force to contend with. Another power player who has decided to use me as a piece in her games, although things never seem to go according to plan.

This is a meme done by quite a few book review bloggers, and hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Waiting On Wednesdays shows books that I am stoked about and can't wait to read!

The Iron Knight
Julie Kagawa
October 25, 2011

Ash, former prince of the Winter Court, gave up everything. His title, his home, even his vow of loyalty. All for a girl… and all for nothing.

Unless he can earn a soul.

To cold, emotionless faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.

Then Meghan Chase—a half human, half fey slip of a girl— smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.

With the (unwelcome) company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end— a quest to find a way to honor his solemn vow to stand by Meghan’s side.

To survive in the Iron realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. At least, no one has ever passed to tell the tale.

And then Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that turns reality upside down, challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

-- I need just a minute to say that so far I have loved loved loved this series!!! I still need to read The Iron Queen and then painfully wait a couple more months for this one! EEEEK!

Cover Crazy is hosted by Tawni at The Book Worms.

I was so excited to see the new cover! It is tormenting waiting for this next book to come out - going to stop now before I go all fan-girl.

Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.

Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.

The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

Okay, I think that covers everything but the Friday feature, which I am skipping for now, but it will resume this Friday for sure. Apologies for the super-duper long post!
