City of Bones
Cassandra Clare
485

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

I was really disappointed with this one. I was excited to read it, but unfortunately couldn't get into it for anything. After about fifty pages in and feeling like it was jumbled, I just couldn't read any more. I feel bad because I know perhaps I should have been more patient with it, but it just wasn't grabbing me - writing style or storyline.

I hope whoever reads this has a better experience than I did.

I loved the first three books but the fourth was a complete disappointment... I really don't know what's gotten into Cassandra Clare...
Probably you should try her other series, The Infernal Devices. It's way much better

I did want to read those. I hope they really are better. I just couldn't get into this one.

I heard the beginning was slow. I hope when I get to this series I'm not horribly disappointed.

I borrowed this from my friend who raved about it whereas my sister-in-law couldn't get into it either. Maybe it is just one of those books you either like or you don't? You may very well love it.
